Weir-Jones Releases ADIS V.7

The latest version of the automatic draught indicator system (ADIS™) developed by Weir-Jones Engineering Consultants interfaces with handheld devices making it easier and even more cost effective to operate and update.

The updated ADIS™ system (ADIS™ Version 7) saves time and resources by enabling operators, including major ferry fleet operators and the US Navy, to implement new features and carry out system health monitoring.

Like previous versions of ADIS™, the new system helps the Captain optimize a vessel’s trim, improving fuel efficiency by as much as 5%, and reduce CO2 emissions. This is done by collecting and displaying trim data in real-time, maintaining records of draught readings, and optionally integrating this information with a ballast control system.

The new technology enables users to view graphical and numerical data on cellular phones and tablets from remote locations – rather than just from the bridge of a ship – simplifying loading and ballasting operations.

“Previously, system maintenance operations required Weir-Jones technicians to attend the vessel,” says company President Iain Weir-Jones. “With ADIS™ V.7 we can carry out remote system health monitoring, provide software upgrades, and assist the ship’s technicians if any maintenance is required.”

ADIS™ Version 7 includes the following features:

  • Secure Android/iPhone applications for remote real-time monitoring of the vessel’s draft away from the bridge, or even away from the vessel;
  • Windows-based high-resolution bridge and deck displays;
  • ADIS™ can be installed by client/shipyard electricians without the presence of Weir-Jones technicians;
  • An automatic software download/updates option that uses Wi-Fi or a cellular modem.
  • Irrespective of the vessel’s location the latest software updates can be installed at the next port of-Call, after authorization by the Captain;
  • ADIS™ monitors its health on a 24/7 basis and reports when a component requires service or replacement, and;
  • ADIS™ can log draught information and/or forward it to interested clients or authorities if required.
  • ADIS™ can interface with ballast control systems.
